PRINTED M∆N is the design space for London based menswear designers Yasmin Bawa.

Yasmin Bawa is a BA graduate from Middlesex University. Her Final collection, ‘He Shall Be a Peacock’, looks to Futurism, pictograms and camera-less photography; with a key focus on Giacomo Balla’s ‘Futurist Manifesto of Men’s Clothing’. The collection plays with the idea of suits and tailoring, and reflects a balance that can be found within formal and causal looks. There is also a focus on small detailing; bound seams, functional pockets, printed linings and laser-etched panels ensure the garments are beautiful inside and out.

Her pre collection ‘Lattice’ was inspired by a photography project "Family stuff" by Huang Qingjun and Ma Hongjie. The project photographs the homes of 50 rural Chinese homes, taking all of their possessions from inside their house and placing it outside. It shows the original artwork and furniture mixed in with modern appliances. This collection combines elements from these rural Chinese villages and the traditional lattice design artwork with a more technical element, showing the social change taking place as modern culture seeps its way into these homes and families. Natural fabrics, hand dying and screen prints created the traditional element whilst laser etched prints on cotton drill and leather shows off the use of modern technology. Gradient effects on the fabrics are a further emphasis on this change that is going on, with one colour slowly taking over the next. As a menswear collection is shows classic shapes whistle creating a whole new look with the colours, prints, function and detailing.

Yasmin has continuously been involved within the Industry since starting her BA and has worked with Tim Soar, Richard Nicoll and DavidDavid assisting on research, design and production.
